If you are interested in the research that my lab undertakes, or have ideas of your own that are related to our research, please send me a copy of your CV and a letter describing your interests. Our aim is to support your research interests. As part of a large research group, there is ample opportunity to learn new skills and to interact and collaborate with other enthusiastic students and scientists. At this point in time I can only take students who have some sort of external scholarship support (e.g. NSERC, NSF), or who qualify for our own internal departmental scholarship, which is based on a high cumulative GPA.
PhD positions available: Atlantic salmon migrations and susceptibility to pathogens.
Seeking 2 PhDs to being asap on an NSERC funded program examining smolt migrations throughout eastern Canada. See descriptions here.
Undergraduate Honours Positions
I anticipate having one or two positions available each year for Undergraduate Honours Thesis students (e.g. BIOL 4900). Ideally, thesis projects would involve some field data collection and lab work, but may involve analysis of pre-existing datasets. Ultimately, most projects will have a focus on the physiological underpinning of life-history variation, in either fish or birds, and will usually involve telemetry and behavioural data. Honours projects are a great introduction to research, to what life would be like in graduate school, and to what science is like as a career. I also make every effort to provide thesis projects that could be published as a peer-reviewed scientific paper (click here for example). Having your thesis published as a journal paper is great for your CV and bolsters your application to graduate schools.
